January marks Cervical Cancer Awareness month, and the countdown to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030 has begun. This year's theme: Learn. Prevent. Screen.
LEARN: With 6 years left to reach the global goal, education is key. Know how to minimize risks and the importance of regular screenings.
In 2020, cervical cancer had 604,000 new cases and 342,000 deaths globally.
Almost 90% occurred in low- and middle-income nations.
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the main risk factor, responsible for 99.7% of cases.
PREVENT: To be on the path to elimination by 2030, countries must meet the 90-70-90 targets.
90% of girls fully vaccinated with HPV by age 15.
70% of women screened with a high-performance test at 35 and 45.
90% of women identified with cervical disease receive treatment (90% of women with precancer treated, and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed).
Achieving the 90-70-90 targets by 2030 in low- and lower-middle-income countries means:
Preventing more than 74 million new cases of cervical cancer
Preventing 300 000 cumulative cervical cancer deaths by 2030
SCREEN: Innovations are transforming cervical cancer screening.
New speculum designs like the Bouquet 5 leaf speculum overcome limitations, such as lateral vaginal wall collapse and patient discomfort, for better cervical visualization.
Companies like MOBILE ODT provide advanced tools to low- and middle-income countries, by creating a stable ongoing connection between primary screeners and expert clinicians for remote decision support and learning through the EVA System.
The Enhanced Visual Assessment (EVA) System, (EVA) System enables colposcopy-grade imaging, built around a mobile phone platform.
Let's unite to Learn. Prevent. Screen. Together, we can eliminate cervical cancer by 2030. #cervicalcancerawareness #cervicalcancerawarenessmonth #screeningsaveslives #innovation #eliminateby2030
