Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

January marks Cervical Cancer Awareness month, and the countdown to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030 has begun. This year's theme: Learn. Prevent. Screen.

LEARN: With 6 years left to reach the global goal, education is key. Know how to minimize risks and the importance of regular screenings.

  • In 2020, cervical cancer had 604,000 new cases and 342,000 deaths globally.

  • Almost 90% occurred in low- and middle-income nations.

  • Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the main risk factor, responsible for 99.7% of cases.

PREVENT: To be on the path to elimination by 2030, countries must meet the 90-70-90 targets.

  • 90% of girls fully vaccinated with HPV by age 15.

  • 70% of women screened with a high-performance test at 35 and 45.

  • 90% of women identified with cervical disease receive treatment (90% of women with precancer treated, and 90% of women with invasive cancer managed).

Achieving the 90-70-90 targets by 2030 in low- and lower-middle-income countries means:

  • Preventing more than 74 million new cases of cervical cancer

  • Preventing 300 000 cumulative cervical cancer deaths by 2030

SCREEN: Innovations are transforming cervical cancer screening.

  • New speculum designs like the Bouquet 5 leaf speculum overcome limitations, such as lateral vaginal wall collapse and patient discomfort, for better cervical visualization.

  • Companies like MOBILE ODT provide advanced tools to low- and middle-income countries, by creating a stable ongoing connection between primary screeners and expert clinicians for remote decision support and learning through the EVA System.

  • The Enhanced Visual Assessment (EVA) System, (EVA) System enables colposcopy-grade imaging, built around a mobile phone platform.

Let's unite to Learn. Prevent. Screen. Together, we can eliminate cervical cancer by 2030. #cervicalcancerawareness #cervicalcancerawarenessmonth #screeningsaveslives #innovation #eliminateby2030
